Saturday is the Belmont Stakes, the last leg of the Triple Crown series of horse racing.  This race is nicknamed “The Test of a Champion” as it’s the longest race in the series.

I’ll Have Another has won the first two legs, the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, and will hopefully make horse racing history by winning the Belmont Stakes and becoming the latest Triple Crown winner.

The last Triple Crown winner dates back to 1978 and the horse was “Affirmed". In US horse racing history, 11 horses have been named Triple Crown winners.   I’ll Have Another goes into this race as the 11th horse to attempt the Triple Crown since Affirmed won, and this Saturday, we could see  him as the 12th Triple Crown Winner. If numerology is your thing you may also like to know that he is in the 11th post position for the race as well.

Big Brown was the last horse to take a shot in 2008. Some other notable horses to try to win were Forward Pass, Silver Charm, Real Quiet, Funny Cide, and Smarty Jones.

As of today, the morning line odds for I’ll Have Another were 4-5, making him the obvious favorite.  Some of the biggest competition from the Derby and the Preakness will not be running in the Belmont on Saturday.  However, some new untested horses will be added to the field.  What does this mean for I’ll Have another?  I guess we have to wait and see. I'm a little torn because the last horse to win the big 3 was Affirmed and is my favorite horse of all time. However, I for one, am hoping to see a Triple Crown Winner.  My Money is on I’ll Have another.
