I don't want to bore you with saying this again in my blog, but I've had the priviledge of being at WGNA for over 20 years.  And in that time, we have fought what seems to be a never ending battle to try to convince the "mainstream media" that Country music might actually be-ummmm-POPULAR????  We've always had the hardest time getting local media to cover any news about the subject-like it's "uncool" to listen to the format or something.  Well-BREAKING NEWS!!

And I mean that LITERALLY.  The Times Union.com had a breaking news story today:  Superstar (yes, superstar) Miranda Lambert is to headline this year's WGNA Countryfest on July 9th in Altamont, NY.  The story wasn't that long.  That was about the extent of it.  But the point of the matter is that they considered it important enough to make it their lead story!

Alot of hard, hard work goes into putting this event together.  Promotions guru Selena Dutcher can tell you that.  To be able to nab a huge Country star is difficult given their many other committments.  To get a CMA, CMT, ACM, and Grammy Award winner to perform here is a big deal.  It SHOULD be breaking news all over the Capital Region.

I don't have to tell you how big Country music has become.  (Do you think Donald Trump would feature a Country star on the Apprentice if it didn't have huge mass appeal?)

It's nice to know that the TU is "getting it"- that there is much more to cover besides  pop, rap and hip hop.  (not knocking the music, mind you.. I listen to other stuff too).  But just wanted to pass the word over there that we notice, acknowledge, and appreciate the "props" that we get, and I'm sure I'm speaking for alot of listeners who would like their country stars to get equal time!

  Thanks, TU!!!!!!

(OK, I'm done spouting off.  Just exercising my Miranda rights!!)
