It is a big day this Saturday for the new Rotterdam Aquarium, which will celebrate it's grand opening.

As the Via Aquarium Facebook page says, this is your chance to 'Experience the wonders of the ocean in your backyard!' What Via is dubbing as 'the Capital Region's only full-scale aquarium' will celebrate it's Grand Opening this Saturday at 1pm. Here's what Via says you can expect:

  • Over 25,000 square feet of oceanic treasures
  • Over 2,000 creatures of the sea
  • A 360-degree ocean tunnel
  • And more!

The aquarium's director David Gross recently told the Times Union there will be '...37 exhibits with 75,000 gallons of water. There will be some 250 species and about 2,500 total fish and other aquatic creatures.'

Heck you can even see piranha's feeding. THAT sounds awesome! And you know the kids are going to love this. My daughter Scarlett is obsessed with Nemo and Dory, so i can imagine she would get a huge kick out of this place. Your kids will too, even if the Disney movies are not your inspiration for taking them.

Admission is $19 for adults, $10 for ages 4-17 and kids under 4 get in free. You can learn more about the aquarium here.
