The explosion of the craft breweries in our area has prompted a local college to offer a special certificate to anyone who wishes to explore the business. For the first time, Fulton-Montgomery Community College announced that they will be partnering up with local craft breweries to get educated in the field.

The Craft Brewery Management Certificate course will allow students to get an inside education in the craft beer business. Students will oversee the production process inside the craft breweries, learn about the craft beer packaging, learn how to maintain the facilities and the daily operations, verify the quality of the craft beer,  and control the profit and loss of your business according to the Fulton-Montgomery Community College Facebook page.

There are a few breweries that are on board to make this Craft Brewery Management course possible. Fulton-Montgomery Community College has teamed up with Great Sacandaga Brewery, Stump City Brewery, and 44 Lakes Craft Beverage Trail. There is also help from the Fulton-Montgomery Chamber of Commerce.

There were seven craft brewery certificate programs available across New York state. The Fulton-Montgomery Community College makes eight. The only one closer than FMCC is Schenectady County Community College, a twenty-eight credit program where you learn everything from "Beers of the World" to "Inventory and Warehousing". Niagara County Community College where they offer a sixty-four credit program, Erie County Community College, Hartwick College, Cornell University, SUNY Morrisville, and The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park.
