Saratoga Sheriffs Ask for Public’s Help Finding Man Who Fled from Custody
The Ballston Spa Central School District was placed on lockdown Thursday as the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office searched for a man they say broke away from police as they attempted to detain him. While the individual is not considered a threat to the community, safety precautions were put into place as the man's whereabouts continue to be in question.
In a memo sent out by the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office, information was relayed about a man they say broke from their custody and fled from their grasp. They say that at 9:45 on Thursday morning, 26-year-old Kevin Dahl came to the Public Safety building to retrieve his property. While he was there, a Deputy attempted to place him in custody after it was learned that there was an active warrant out for Dahl's arrest. But he ran and got away.
As a precaution, the Sheriff's put Ballston Spa Central Schools on a lockout Thursday, although they say that Dahl is not considered "a threat." According to a 2014 story from the Troy Record, Dahl was arrested for forcibly stealing a bottle of prescription medication.
According to the report, "Dahl, of Clifton Park, not only threatened the victim but also held a sharp object to the victim’s neck and throat while doing so, ultimately causing a severe laceration to the victim’s right pinky finger."
Dahl was charged with robbery in the first degree and assault in the second degree.
The Sheriff's Office is seeking information on Kevin Dahl. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts please contact the Sheriff's Office at 518-885-6761.
