Police: Pregnant Horse Shot and Killed in Upstate, Reward Offered
Who did this heinous crime?
Police say they are looking for the person(s) responsible for a heinous act after they found a 15-year-old pregnant mare dead from a gunshot wound this week. Sadly, they believe that she and her colt suffered for some time before passing.
According to a report from JSOnline.com, The Humane Society of Greater Rochester at Lollypop Farm says their 15-year-old mare had gotten loose from pastures in Clarkson, only to be found dead from a gunshot wound that shattered her shoulder.
The staff at the Human Society is hoping that with the help and support of the community, they can find out who did this despicable crime out in Brockport, NY - which is about 3 1/2 half hours west of Albany.

Is killing a horse considered "animal cruelty"?
While we can all agree this is truly despicable, unfortunately, it's not considered animal cruelty, and the person(s) responsible would face only a misdemeanor charge.
According to a report from Rochester First, “Horses are considered livestock, they don’t fall under the felony animal cruelty charge in New York State,” said Reno Didomenico, the Vice President of Law Enforcement for Lollypop Farm.
Adding, “That’s something we’ve been fighting for for a long time. If we do find who did this, they’re looking at a misdemeanor charge.
