Pretzel Chain Makes Upstate New York Debut in Clifton Park Center
Clifton Park Center is adding another big name to its growing lineup of retailers. Wetzel’s Pretzels is on the way. The popular national chain known for its warm, buttery soft pretzels and fresh lemonade plans to open its first Capital Region location this spring.
The new shop will sit right next to Cold Stone Creamery, which makes sense since both brands are part of the same family. The local Cold Stone franchisee is bringing Wetzel’s to Clifton Park Center, adding another reason to stop by for a treat.
According to the Albany Business Review, Wetzel’s has been expanding quickly across upstate New York, especially along the Thruway, with Clifton Park now becoming part of that growth. The company is also eyeing other local spots, including Crossgates Mall, as it looks for more franchise opportunities in the area.
Even as shopping habits shift, Wetzel’s has found success in busy malls that focus on creating experiences rather than just shopping. The brand isn’t limited to food courts either. Its stores tend to pop up anywhere people are strolling, since pretzels are seen as a quick, on-the-go snack rather than a full meal.

Beyond malls, Wetzel’s has also been partnering with Walmart stores across the country, turning high-traffic retail spaces into pretzel destinations. While there aren’t any Capital Region Walmart locations confirmed yet, the company says it’s something they’re considering.
With this addition, Clifton Park Center continues to evolve, bringing in more national names that make it an even more appealing stop for local shoppers.
