ARMED & DANGEROUS-Manhunt For Capital Region Fugitive
Police are searching for a suspect after a woman was found dead in her Cohoes home over the weekend. Investigators say the 41-year-old victim lived on Earl Lynn Court with her boyfriend.
The suspect, 53-year-old Anthony Bechand, is still on the run. Police say he may be armed and dangerous. He was last connected to a white 2024 Chevrolet Silverado, which was later found abandoned in Franklin County near County Routes 60 and 86 in the Town of Brighton in the Adirondacks. Even with the vehicle recovered, Bechand’s current location remains unknown.
The Cohoes Police Department is working with the New York State Police Major Crimes team and the Forensic Identification Unit to piece together what happened. Officials say this is the city’s first homicide of the year, making the case stand out even more in the community.
Neighbors describe the neighborhood as usually quiet, which has left many shaken by the violence and by the ongoing search. The uncertainty about where Bechand might be has added to local concern, especially with police expanding the manhunt into multiple counties.
Authorities are urging the public to stay alert but not to approach Bechand if he is spotted. Anyone with information is asked to call State Police at 518-897-2000 or the Cohoes Police Department at 518-237-5333.
The search is still active as police work to track him down and bring answers to the victim’s family.
