Love Cowboy Perplexed Over Breakup Via Text

I recently found out that my boyfriend wants to break up with me...which to be honest with you, I'm not all that surprised. We've only been together for a few months and I didn't really see us having much future. My only issue with him is that he did it via text, while I was at work. The whole thing seems childish and annoying. I let off some steam to some friends of mine recently and they basically said that within the first 2 months of a relationship, a text break-up is a lot more common than you'd think. Am I crazy for thinking he owed me more?
