It’s a tradition every 4th of July, to have a hot dog eating contest at Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs in Coney Island, New York.

Champion Eaters Compete In Nathan's Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest

I know we’re past the holiday, and I almost forgot about the whole thing, until I saw a story about it recently which leads me to rant about it. Let me start by saying I’m not blasting Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs because they are very good hot dogs. It’s seeing someone shoving hot dog after hot dog into their mouth and trying to eat as many as they can in a short period of time.

This makes national news every year. According to ABC news, the winner was Joey Chestnut, downing 62 dogs in just 10 minutes. This is not his first year to win. It’s his fifth consecutive year. Now that’s something to make mom and dad proud.

Now please don’t think I’m being unpatriotic. I just think this has got to be one of the dumbest and grossest things ever. Instead of being a glutton, buy more American flags, go watch more fireworks shows or just eat a hot dog or two. Do you think this contest is disgusting?
