Local Photographer Captures Chilling Images From Cemetery Crash
Over the weekend, 19-year-old Janae Ubrich from Selkirk, crashed her car through Elmwood Cemetery on Route 9W. Ubrich, according to police, was driving while intoxicated when she struck poles and pillars on her way to wreaking havoc through the cemetery before her car finally came to a stop. According to reports, emergency rescue teams extracted the teenager from her demolished car before taking her to the hospital where she is currently being treated for serious, but not life threatening injuries. These chilling photos from a local photographer show just how serious - and potentially deadly - drinking and driving is and can be.
The damage caused by the accident, which News 10 ABC said happened around 3am, was photographed by Thomas Marra a local fire photographer. Marra's images are shocking and unnerving to see, but I stumbled upon them and couldn't take my eyes off them. I asked his permission to share these intense pictures in a blog that I was writing and he obliged.
By now you may have already heard the news, but these images tell a more complete story. They photos not only show the utter destruction the driver unleashed on the cemetery , but to her car as well which literally looks disintegrated. Quite frankly, she's lucky to be alive. The images captured also chronicle the significant and heroic work of the men and women of the Selkirk Fire Department , the Bethlehem Police rest of the first responders who arrived at the scene to help in the middle of the night. Thank you all for your bravery and outstanding service.
