Local Favorites Finalists for New York State Restaurant Awards
Three well-known eateries in the Capital Region are finalists for prestigious New York State restaurant awards.
These restaurants compete for Best Restaurant of the Eastern Region, an award that celebrates places known for their amazing food, excellent service, and originality.
The Nest in Schenectady, Panza’s Restaurant in Saratoga Springs, and Sweet Mimi’s Café & Bakery in Saratoga Springs are finalists for the New York State Restaurant Association’s RISE Awards. They are against other local favorites, including Zotto’s the Pine in Troy, Chez Mike in East Greenbush, and Yono’s in Albany.
Sweet Mimi’s is also running for Best Front of House Team, which honors the hardworking staff who greet, serve, and care for customers, from hosts and servers to bartenders and managers.
Online voting for the awards is open until January 3rd, so there is still time to show your support for your favorites by voting HERE.
In addition to these exciting nominations, Yono and Donna Purnomo, the duo behind Yono’s in Albany, are being recognized with a Hospitality Career Achievement award. Donna is also known for co-founding the Albany Chefs’ Food and Wine Festival and for leading the Capital District Chapter of the state restaurant association in the past.
Yono Purnomo himself is a culinary standout. He has cooked at the prestigious James Beard House and appeared on NBC’s Today Show and Food Network. He has also earned the American Dream Award, the ACF President’s Medallion, and an honorary doctorate from SUNY in 2021.
A special ceremony will highlight the winners of the RISE awards on January 28th.
