One of the Capital Region's favorite local watering holes is on the market.

Just like every Capital Region resident has a story to tell, there are local legendary pubs in our town and cities in the 518 where those stories are told. A local favorite where I am sure infinite stories, drinks, and good times have been shared is currently on the market. The Purple Pub in Watervliet has been listed for sale for $550,000. You can see the listing on the BizBuySell website.

One of the owner's Bob Rentz told the Albany Business Review (ABR) "We have just gotten too old to keep it going. It's too much work for us and we don't have anybody to take over and do it. It's harder and harder to get good employees."

The Purple Pub has been operating for almost 50 years, bringing joy to Watervliet through wings and pizza since 1972. Obviously, with this posting for the sale of the restaurant, there has been some social media buzz regarding the future of this beloved local pub on their Facebook page. Based on all the love for the Purple Pub, the general hope among patrons is that it continues to operate under new ownership. The location and food are loved, as evidenced by the Purple Pub recently landing on our list of the best pizza joints in the Capital Region.

Rentz told ABR the business is still profitable, and after weathering low turnout during the pandemic they have noticed a turn of late, even needing a waiting list to accommodate diners.
