Landmark Albany Movie Theater Closing For Some Big Changes

The Madison Theater in Albany is a landmark building in the city.

It was recently purchased by the owners of the business adjacent to the theater, Tierra Coffee Roasters.

When I first saw the story on WNYT, I thought that another classic landmark would be going away. But as I watched, I was happy to hear that the new owners aren’t demolishing it. It sounds like they may make it better.

In a story from The Times Union, the building will be getting some upgrades and major renovations. That includes changing from seven screens to two screens. The plans are to close on Sunday night, September 8, 2013, and reopen in November.
