UPDATE: Taylor Swift responded to Kim K.'s Snapchat reveal tonight (July 17) with a lengthy note posted on her Instagram.
Where is the video of Kanye telling me he was going to call 'that bitch' in his song? It doesn't exist because it never happened. You don't get to control someone's emotional response to being called 'that bitch' in front of the entire world. Of course I wanted to like the song. I wanted to believe Kanye when he told me that I would love the song. I wanted us to have a friendly relationship. He promised to play the song for me, but he never did. While I wanted to be supportive of Kanye on the phone call, you cannot 'approve' a song you haven't heard. Being falsely painted as a liar when I was never given the full story of played any part of the song is character assassination, I would very much like to be excluded from this narrative, one that I have never asked to be a part of, since 2009.
"That moment when Kanye West secretly records your phone call, then Kim posts it on the Internet," Taylor captioned the Instagram note.
Shots fired.
In her GQ cover story last month, Kim Kardashian revealed that Taylor Swift absolutely knew in advance that Kanye West wrote a lyric about her in his The Life of Pablo track, "Famous" — and now Kim K. is providing the receipts.
In a stream of Snapchats posted tonight (July 17), Kim K. unveiled what appears to be a video of Kanye having a chat with Taylor Swift on speakerphone, in which he's giving the 1989 superstar advance warning of the lyrics of the song, including the line: "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex."
"It's like a compliment," the voice replies with a laugh.
"What I give a f--k about is just you as a person and as a friend. I want things that make you feel good. I don't want to make rap that makes people feel...I just have a responsibility to you as a friend," he explains.
"I really appreciate you telling me about it. That's really nice," she adds.
The disagreement over Taylor's response to the "Famous" lyric also played out on tonight's episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians (July 17).
“[Taylor Swift] totally approved that,” Kim said in her GQ cover story. “She totally knew that that was coming out. She wanted to all of a sudden act like she didn’t. I swear, my husband gets so much sh—t for things [when] he really was doing proper protocol and even called to get it approved. What rapper would call a girl that he was rapping a line about to get approval?”
Back in June, Taylor's camp issued a statement following Kim's GQ interview acknowledging that a phone call did occur between Kanye and Taylor, but that Taylor never actually heard the song — or that the line 'that b---h' would be used."
"It was on that phone call that Kanye West also asked her to release the song on her Twitter account, which she declined to do. Kanye West never told Taylor he was going to use the term 'that b***h' in referencing her. A song cannot be approved if it was never heard. Kanye West never played the song for Taylor Swift. 'Taylor heard it for the first time when everyone else did and was humiliated. Kim Kardashian's claim that Taylor and her team were aware of being recorded is not true, and Taylor cannot understand why Kanye West, and now Kim Kardashian, will not just leave her alone."
It's been quite a week in celebrity clap-backs directed Taylor's way: Just a few days ago, Swift's ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris laid into her on Twitter regarding her hidden writing credits on his summer smash with Rihanna, "This Is What You Came For," claiming that her team was trying to take him down.
"Hurtful to me at this point that her and her team would go so far out of their way to try and make ME look bad at this stage though ...I know you're off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy ETC but I'm not that guy, sorry. I won't allow it," he wrote.
Seven years later, the West/Swift saga continues...
