Shocking news came out on Thursday afternoon. A beloved Capital Region restaurant and bar announced the immediate temporary closure of all of their locations. As of right now, you can no longer go to any Swifty's Pubs.

On Facebook they wrote, "We’re sorry for any inconvenience and look forward to serving you again soon!" That was followed up with an image post saying that the circumstances of the temporary closures were "unforeseen." However after looking into it, I think they probably knew that this was coming at some point.

Temporary Closure

Steve Barnes from the Times Union reported that the locations were closed due to tax seizure. They owed $600,000 minimum on one of 16 warrants for sales, withholding taxes.

A state database of tax warrants shows the owner, Dave Swift, “individually and as a responsible person of Swifty’s Restaurant and Pub Inc.” owes $583,839.80 in unpaid sales tax on a warrant dated June 29, 2022.

Along with that warren there are several others that go all the way back to 2016. They say that the total amount of taxes owed is unclear.

When will they open again?

One thig is certain, it doesn't look like anyone is going to be going to a Swifty's location anytime soon.

Swifty's has two locations in the Capital Region. One at 95 Everett Road in Albany, where multiple Colonie Police cars were scene blocking the entrance on Thursday. They have another location in Delmar located at 367 Delaware Ave. They also have a location in Utica, New York that was also shutdown.

Hopefully they get things sorted out soon. This time of year is a big one for the bar industry with family and friends looking for places to go out.
