Gross! Upstate NY City Included in List of 2024’s ‘Worst Bed Bug Cities’ in U.S.
Writing stories like these really bugs me, but it's important information to know, so, here we go.
A city in Upstate New York has been included in a list of the worst cities for a specific type of bug, and needless to say, residents of this area may want to check under the sheets before heading to bed tonight.
Here's why.
Upstate NY City Named Among Orkin's Worst "Bed Bug Cities" in America
A story from New York Upstate shared the less-than-ideal news that Buffalo, NY was included in a list published by Orkin of the worst cities for bed bugs in the United States. More specifically, Buffalo was ranked 42nd out of the 50 states included this year.
Buffalo was one of two cities in the Empire State that were included in this inauspicious list, as unsurprisingly, New York City was ranked second-worst.
Chicago was deemed to be 2024's worst city for bed bugs, with NYC in 2nd, Philadelphia in 3rd, Cleveland-Akron in 4th and Los Angeles in 5th. Buffalo, meanwhile, was ranked directly below San Francisco (41st), and directly above Harrisburg, PA (43rd).
Buffalo has apparently cleaned up their act from a year ago, however, as the city dropped 13 spots from their spot in the rankings in 2023.
Other East Coast(ish) cities that were included on this year's list include Washington D.C. (7th), Charlotte (9th), Baltimore (16th) and Pittsburgh (21st).
Orkin recommends that you remember the acronym S.L.E.E.P. when travelling, which suggests you survey the hotel room, lift and look in bug hiding spots, elevate luggage, examine luggage carefully when repacking and place clothing in the dryer when you return home.
