‘Unacceptable': New York Yankees’ Star Gives Harsh Critique of Injury Woes
Giancarlo Stanton is on the injured list for the New York Yankees...again.
This time around, Stanton has been sidelined with a Grade 2 strain of his left hamstring. The injury will keep "G" off the field for six-to-eight weeks, and once again, will remove his impact bat from the middle of the Yankees' lineup. It's an unfortunately familiar trend for fans of the team, and some of those fans quickly took to social media to vent their frustrations about the situation.
One other person even made headlines for sharing their frustrations with his injury woes: Giancarlo Stanton himself.
Stanton Calls Injury Issues 'Unacceptable' for Himself and His Yankees' Team
A story from ESPN shared critical comments from New York Yankees' slugger Giancarlo Stanton regarding his own injury issues, on the heels of another trip to the injured list which was announced by the team earlier this week.
Though he elaborated on why he feels this way, one word summed up how Stanton is feeling about his inability to stay healthy: unacceptable.
Here's what Stanton had to say to reporters earlier this week:
"It's unacceptable [being injured] this often right now. The team relies on me. I can't have this continue to happen and put us in a really tough spot we weren't prepared for."
"There are guys to fill the roles that'll do just fine but at the same time, it's my duty and responsibility to be out there."
"I mean, the disbelief and disappointment at [the timing of] this is hard to put into words and comprehend, and it's very frustrating," he said.

Stanton is, relatively speaking, a mild-mannered personality when speaking to the media, which makes these comments much more poignant for fans reading them for the first time.
Unfortunately for Stanton and the Yankees, his critique of his own health issues is rooted in fact. ESPN notes that Stanton missed 223 of 546 possible games (41%) with the Yankees over the previous four seasons.
During that time, he's been held out with the following injuries:
- 2019: strained right biceps and strained PCL in his right knee
- 2020: strained left hamstring
- 2021: strained left quadriceps
- 2022: right ankle inflammation and left Achilles tendinitis
It's a unique phenomenon across sports that some athletes are simply more prone to injuries than others. In the case of Stanton, his size (6-foot-6, 245-pounds) and muscular build makes it inherently difficult to stay on-the-field for the grueling 162-game baseball season.
Aaron Boone stated that he doesn't question his professionalism and his commitment to doing all he needs to do to stay healthy and to be healthy, and most fans would probably agree with that statement. It's nothing more than a set of unfortunate circumstances surrounding one of the team's most impactful players.
Hopefully for Stanton and the Yanks, he'll put his injury woes behind him after he returns in late-May.
