Warning: Important Car Seat Recall Across New York State

If your child has spent most of the week cooped up in the house or at school, thanks to this cold winter weather, you might think this weekend would be a good time to get them out of the house before they (or you!) go stir-crazy. 

Parents all over New York State are probably planning on hitting the road this weekend with their kids, whether it’s for running errands, visiting relatives, or heading out of town for a quick getaway.

But now, yet another product recall that could affect the health and safety of your little one is causing parents across New York State to think twice about packing up their kids in the car. 

Before traveling this weekend with your baby, you’ll want to read this.

The National Highway Safety and Traffic Administration issued a recall due to a serious safety issue with several Maxi-Cosi and Safety 1st car seats. This has led to nearly 60,000 car seats, sold at retailers such as Target, Kohl’s, and Amazon between 2020 and 2023, being recalled by the manufacturer. 

The products being recalled are:

• Maxi-Cosi Mico XP IC336 and IC338 seats (manufactured between September 1, 2020 and February 28, 2023)

• Maxi-Cosi Coral XP IC313 seats (manufactured between May 1, 2020 and February 28, 2023)

• Maxi-Cosi Mico XP Max IC337 seats (manufactured between January 1, 2021 and February 28, 2023)

• Maxi-Cosi Infant Base IC335 seat bases (manufactured between January 1, 2021 and February 28, 2023)

• Maxi-Cosi Micro Luxe+ IC370 seats (manufactured between January 1, 2022 and February 28, 2023)

• Safety 1st onBoard 35 SecureTech IC351 rear-facing infant seats (manufactured between May 1, 2022 and February 28, 2023)

The issue is that during testing, it was found that the base of the affected car seats may detach from the seat of the vehicle, therefore not restraining the child efficiently and leading to serious injury in a potential crash. 

Dorel Juvenile Group, the makers of the affected car seats, will mail replacement seats to fix the issue for free. In the meantime, owners of the recalled car seats are advised only to secure their child seat with a seatbelt until they receive the new seat to fix the issue.

Consumer Reports reminds parents during this recall that it is important to register your car seat as soon as you take it home, so manufacturers can contact you immediately if something is potentially wrong with the model you purchased.
