People Magazine released their annual Most Beautiful Women of 2016 list, and yes, JENNIFER ANISTON is this year's cover girl.

Congrats to Jen!  I'm happy for her, really.

In the article she was asked how she defines beauty, she said,

"Inner confidence.  Peace.  Kindness.  Honesty.  A life well-lived."

And she listed Gloria Steinem, Lauren Hutton, and Brigitte Bardot as her beauty icons.

Some of this year's LESSER beauties include Reese Witherspoon, Sophia Vergara, Keke Palmer, Selena GomezMeagan Good, Carrie Underwood, and Christina Milian.

Annnnnnnd here's where they lose me.

The magazine included a list of women who are "redefining" beauty.

• Amy Schumer

• Mindy Kaling

• Viola Davis

• Ruby Rose

• Zendaya

• Serena Williams

• Gina Rodriguez

Jane Fonda

I'm frustrated because this list of women who are "refining" beauty seems like a list of women who weren't quite beautiful enough for the "real" list, but are still pretty cool and pretty attractive, so they should be included somehow.  Kinda like an "Honorable Mention" list.

So "redefining" means giving new meaning to.

I think People magazine had good intentions here.  I think they were trying to honor some truly amazing women who are fighters and warriors and smart and funny and successful.  And also, beautiful.

But.... come on People!  If you really want me to take this seriously, put those women on the regular list!

Just put Viola Davis in next to Reese Witherspoon and make no apologies about it.  America will accept them both as beautiful... because they are.

Throw Gina Rodriguez right in there with Carrie Underwood.  Sure, she's not blond, but she's stunning!  And America knows it.

People magazine!  You have more responsibility as a media outlet aimed toward women.  You are a tastemaker and you are segregating women who are not "traditionally" beautiful into a separate category.  And I think that's just plain rude.
