If hearing that George Strait classic 'Christmas Cookies' has got you craving that warm holiday aroma of cookies baking in the oven, then Grandma has a recipe for you!

Although Grandma loves George Strait's song, one of her all-time favorite Christmas Crooners is Kenny Rogers. 'The Gambler's' Christmas music have been a staple soundtrack at our family holiday gatherings for years. In the picture above, Grandma meets Kenny Rogers after one of his festive Christmas shows.

Everyone needs a Christmas Cookie. These are easy and fun to make for young or old. This is one of Grandma Carrie's favorite recipes from southernfood.about.com.

Mama's Soft Sugar Cookies

3&1/4  Cups all-purpose flour, sift before measuring

1  Teaspoon baking soda

1/2  Teaspoon salt

1/2  Cup butter, room temperature

1  Cup granulated sugar (for diabetics substitute with all Splenda)

1  egg

1&1/2 Teaspoons vanilla

1/2 Cup sour cream

In a bowl, sift together sifted flour, baking soda, and salt
In a mixing bowl, cream butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla with an electric mixer for 2 minutes
Add sour cream and half of the sifted dry ingredients and beat for 1 minute
Stir in remaining dry ingredients with a spoon until blended
Divide dough in half and roll each portion out on a lightly floured surface to 1/4 inch thick (if you like thinner cookies roll thinner)
Cut with floured cookie cutters of your choice
Place cookies on greased cookie sheet
Bake at 400 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes
Cool on racks
Decorate if you wish and enjoy
Store in an airtight container
Makes about 6 dozen soft sugar cookies
