Good Chunk Of Snow In Albany Forecast Later This Week
After a pretty quiet December for snow, the first weekend of the new year could bring us our first decent snowfall of the season.
I am sure you are thinking the same thing I am thinking right now: the way this winter has gone so far, I will believe we are getting some real snow when we see it. As far as the snowflakes flying, love 'em or hate 'em, December was a very underwhelming month by Albany and Upstate New York standards when it comes to accumulation.
How Much Snow Did Albany Get In December?
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Albany typically averages 13.7 inches of snow in December. This December 2021 the NWS says our snowfall total was only 4.1 inches. (This was low for the month, but still not low enough to make it one of the top 10 December's for the least amount of snow.)
So How Much Snow Is In The Albany Forecast and When Will We Get It?
According to the Weather Channel, there is a snowmaker working its way across the Northern United States and we can expect to see the snow fly Thursday night into Friday. Current snowfall estimates have Albany and the Capital Region getting up to 5 inches of snow.
Yes, in the grand scheme of Upstate New York, this snowstorm will not bring a whole heck of a lot. In the scheme of winter 2021, this one could end up bringing more snow than we have gotten so far for the season. Even though it is not a ton, maybe with the very cold temps we are finally getting this is a good indicator for winter sports and snow enthusiasts what can be expected the rest of this month!
