Besides it being Saturday, which is usually enough for most of us  to celebrate, but there are two more. It’s Cinco de Mayo, (which is actually celebrated more in the U.S. than Mexico) and the 138th The Kentucky Derby.

Yesterday, I was talking to Rob Dawes, the program director for our sister station Q103, about some places around the Albany area that we thought would be good places to watch the Kentucky Derby. We both came up with some great places, but I wanted to share my list with you.

5) Saratoga Casino and Raceway

At Saratoga Gaming and Raceway (The Racino) You can go upstairs and watch it, or there’s a seating area, almost like a patio, where you can watch the race. It kind of adds ambience.

4) Hooters Of Albany

Hooters and horses - What a combination. Hooters on Wolf Road in Colonie. WGNA's Jeff Levack is there every Tuesday night for Bingo.

3) Clubhouse Race Book

Kentucky Derby Day at The Clubhouse Race Book. (You'll need reservations for this one) They're on the property of the former Albany OTB Teletheater. It’s considered a family establishment, so you can bring the whole family.

2) Wolf’s 111

Wolf’s 111 is on Wolf Road in Colonie and South Pear Street at the Times Union Center in Albany.

1) Recovery Room

The Recovery Room has several Albany area locations. Another place you can bring the kids.

Most of the places on my list are actually family friendly. The only real exception is the Racino. If you watch the race, where are you going to watch it? You can also watch it at home. It will be carried on WNYT TV. Post time will be 6:24 p.m.
