Final Forecast! Upstate TV Icon Has Emotional Last Day On Channel 13
The man, the myth, the map, the mustache! Bob Kovachick has retired from Newschannel 13 in Albany after 35 years and we found a video of one of his first weather forecasts from back in 1988, just one month after he was hired. Check it out below!
I couldn't stop watching News Channel 13 on Monday, the final day of Bob Kovachick's long and illustrious career at the legendary news station. Bob's been around for as long as I can remember, and as far as local television personalities go, he'll be remembered as one of the all-time area greats.
Weather in the Capital Region can be very uncertain, but if a weather event mattered to us, and we needed the deets, you could trust the man who forecasted weather in Upstate NY for nearly 25 years, and that's Bob.
And his long-awaited sendoff on Monday was tastefully done.
Led by Newschanenl 13 afternoon TV anchors Mark Mulholland and Subrina Dhami, viewers were treated to a local version of "This is Your Life" as Bob exchanged emotional goodbyes with friends, family, and fans.
Kovachick is on the Mt. Rushmore of local TV weather personalities along with the likes of Norm Sebastion, Steve Caparizzo, Steve Lapoint, Neal Estano, and Heather Morrison, to name a few.
I don't personally know Bob, but judging by the warm and heartfelt sentiments shared by colleagues throughout the afternoon, it was clear that Kovachick is adored by his colleagues as much as viewers, and he - and the mustache - will be missed!
