Duchess of Sussex Looks to Upstate New York for Jewelry
Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is one of the newer members of the royal family. They're rich, they could have clothing, jewelry, anything from anywhere in the world. Did you know recently, she picked something from Upstate New York?
While attending the wedding of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, Prince Harry's cousins, Meghan was seen wearing a beautiful gold bracelet, four rings, and a pair of earrings, according to The Daily Gazette. What you may not have realized, though, is that those pieces were from Upstate New York - the diamonds anyway.
You may be familiar with the Herkimer Diamond Mines in Herkimer County but since their diamonds were featured on such a high-profile person, "it's been a whirlwind week," they said. The jewelry itself was created by an English designer named Pippa Small who loves the size of the Herkimer Diamonds. Now, national designers and clients are reaching out to the local mine looking for more!
Because of the popularity, the designer has ordered more from the Upstate mine. They usually shut the mine down in November, but with this influx, have decided to leave it open a bit longer. The Gazette reports that, "Herkimer Diamonds are technically double-terminated quartz crystal, not diamonds" which is what makes them different. Can't wait to see who this Upstate New York mine ends up on next!
