If you've ever wondered what to do with your American flag after it is worn and tattered, there is a program that disposes them respectfully all across New York state. According to News 10 ABC, there is a special program that offers drop off locations across the state to discard American flags respectfully. The tattered and worn flags can be dropped at collection points from Long Island to Buffalo.

There are over twenty four places to drop them off. To find out where click HERE. This is an annual event that runs now through May 22nd. The New York state Office of General Services will collect all the flags. They will then be taken to the New York State Fair. On Memorial Day weekend, all of the worn and tattered American flags will be disposed of in a bonfire on May 26th. The Memorial Watchfire is organized by a local chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
