Youth sports are the heart of the Capital Region, and countless volunteer hours and fundraisers go into making sure those kids have a great experience. So it’s hard to believe someone could stoop this low.

A youth baseball club in Cohoes was recently targeted by thieves who broke into the building and stole cash that the nonprofit relies on to operate.

That money wasn’t sitting there for no reason. It was meant to pay the umpires, keep the games running, and support the kids who count on this program every week.

Now, instead of focusing on sports and community, the club is cleaning up broken doors and ceiling tiles. They have to shift their energy and limited funds toward security upgrades to ensure this doesn’t happen again. That includes cameras, reinforced doors, and reworking every possible entry point. None of this was in the budget. None of this should have been necessary.

The Cohoes Intermediate Baseball League set up a GoFundMe in hopes the community will step in where the thieves took away. Every dollar counts right now, not just to replace what was stolen, but to repair the damage done physically and emotionally.

Cohoes Police are investigating and say the break-in qualifies as felony burglary and larceny. Someone decided to enter that building and commit a crime, and they need to be held accountable. Officers are seeking assistance from nearby residents. If they have any camera footage or information that could make a significant difference.

A place meant for kids, teamwork, and positive memories was violated. And for what? A few hundred in cash? It’s disgusting. Let's find these thieves and bring them to justice.
