Regardless if you are heading out today or staying near home, make sure you know the proper procedure for your town, village or city during a snow emergency.  It's important to also know how long your area will be in a snow emergency.  Some areas keep a snow emergency in effect for one or two days after the snow falls just to make it easier for the plows to clean up the roads a little more.  Several snow emergencies began last night and therefore, are already in effect.
