Capital Region Snow Emergencies
Regardless if you are heading out today or staying near home, make sure you know the proper procedure for your town, village or city during a snow emergency. It's important to also know how long your area will be in a snow emergency. Some areas keep a snow emergency in effect for one or two days after the snow falls just to make it easier for the plows to clean up the roads a little more. Several snow emergencies began last night and therefore, are already in effect.
The Village of Athens declared a snow emergency as of 6pm last night which will last until Friday, January 14th. Alternate side of the street parking will change again at 6pm tonight.
The Village Catskill issued a snow emergency as of 8 pm last night. All vehicles should have been parked on the odd side of the street until 8am this morning, with vehicles then switching to the even side of the street. Vehicles should continue switiching sides every 12 hours.
The Town of Cairo residents should have all vehicles off main roads and side streets. All Main Street residents should check posted regulations on alternate side parking street signs. Cairo's snow emergency is in effect until further notice.
Saratoga Springs has declared a snow emergency as of 9 am this morning. No on street parking except for streets where alternate-side parking is posted. On such streets, alternate-side parking will switch every twelve hours.
The Town of Waterford declared a snow emergency as of midnight last night until further notice. Any questions, you can call the highway superintendent at 518-235-3413.
The City of Mechanicville declared a snow emergencyas of 8am today. Cars should be parked on the even side of the street until 8am tomorrow morning. Cars should then be switched to the odd side.
On the other side of the river, the Town of East Greenbush declared a snow emergency as of midnight last night. Vehicles are prohibited from parking on public streets. The snow emergency will continue until all streets have been cleared. The Town of Schodack declared a snow emergency that restricted any on-street parking as of midnight Monday through midnight last night. The Village of Castleton's snow emergency began this morning at 6am and will end Thursday (tomorrow) at 12 noon.
Pittsfield's snow emergency went into effect last night at midnight. The snow emergency will stay in effect until further notice.
Remember when a snow emergency is in effect, cars will be towed if they are found in the way of snow removal personnel, and if parked illegally, at the owner's expense.
