The New York primary has been called off due to continuing concerns regarding the coronavirus.

According to a CNN report, the New York State Board of Elections has canceled the June 23rd primary for the Democratic Presidential candidate because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The decision was made after Bernie Sanders withdrew from the race, making Joe Biden the presumptive nominee. Biden would have also been uncontested on the ballot at this point.

CNN says the Sanders campaign actually objected to removing Sanders from the ballot and canceling the primary, which to me makes no sense. If Sanders pulled out from the race and does not plan to run anymore, why should he be on the ballot? You can make the argument folks should still be able to vote regardless of that, but at this point it seems like a foregone conclusion that Biden would win the primary. Why bother putting people at risk?

Local New York elections scheduled for June 23rd will go on as planned, according to CBS 6.
