Great Escape Lake George: SOLD

News that the Great Escape in Lake George was recently sold has gotten many people in the Capital Region reminiscing about their favorite memories at the park.

For many of us who grew up in the 518, a trip to the Great Escape wasn’t just another day out — it was a full-on summer tradition. Whether it was piling into the car for the ride up the Northway or begging your parents for one more turn on your favorite ride, the park has been part of childhood for generations of Upstate New Yorkers.

Who Remembers When it was Storytown?

I started thinking back to my own trips there as a kid in the 80s and 90s, when it was still closely tied to its Storytown USA roots. When Storytown officially became the Great Escape in 1982, the park began expanding with larger rides and attractions, making it feel like a true amusement destination.

Over the years, some rides came and went.  Still, plenty of classic attractions remain, and the memories tied to them are hard to beat.

So with the park entering a new chapter, it got me thinking about some of my all-time favorite rides and attractions at the Great Escape. Even if your list looks a little different, chances are this trip down memory lane will feel pretty familiar.
