Some people that were in Downtown Pittsfield recently had a little [or maybe a not so little] surprise when someone spotted a bear roaming around.

The bear was estimated to weigh around 140 pounds.

The Pittsfield Police were called about the bear. They responded and also gave a call to the Division Of Fisheries And Wildlife, and the Massachusetts Environmental Police for assistance.

After about three hours, authorities used a dart on the bear to immobilize it. The bear was then put into a truck, and safely taken to a rural area away from the downtown area. Authorities carefully kept an eye on the bear to make sure that the bear was alright and had a fully recovery from the effects of the dart.

According to the story from News 10 ABC, it was noted that if you see a bear in a populated area, just stay away from it and call your local department of environmental conservation. In Massachusetts, call The Massachusetts Environmental Police at 1-800-632-8075.
