Another supermarket is moving into the Capital Region. This time it's a specialty grocery store. The Farmers India Market will be coming to the Kohl's Plaza off of Central Ave in Colonie and take over the vacant building that housed Office Depot according to the Albany Business Review.
This grocery store is focused on the foods in India. The store already has locations in Connecticut and Massachusetts and features unique Indian products. They carry all kinds of rice, pita, kabob, and even Indian produce is available. They also have a Halal meat department with products that you won't be able to find in a regular supermarket. They will also carry lamb and cows' feet.
The store will be twenty-nine thousand square feet and occupy the old Office Depot Store in Kohl's Plaza. They also want to add another fifty-eight hundred square feet on the side of that building that would be utilized for deliveries. This new store would be larger than The Fresh Market stores in Saratoga and Latham and twice as large as the Trader Joe's in Colonie.
There was a plan submitted to the village for approval. In it, it says that location is a key factor. They also say that the focus of the supermarket will be on Middle Eastern, African, and Eastern European grocery shoppers as far as fifty miles away. They plan to have a large selection of produce and other products at competitive prices.
If the village approves, the Farmers India Market will open in June and be open from 9 am to 9 pm daily.
