It turns out we live in one of the best parts of the country when it comes to the chance of having a White Christmas.

It is something we hope for every year: a White Christmas. You and I know we have a chance of it happening every year, but it turns out the chances are pretty good here in the Capital Region.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Upstate New York is one of several areas of the country with the best shot at a white Christmas. According to the NOAA, our past weather history suggests we have a really good shot at it happening each year! The graph below shows the probability of having at least 1 inch of snow on the ground on December 25th:

Based on this, the odds are right around 50/50 we will have snow on the ground for Christmas Day. The ideal scenario would obviously be the flakes coming down for Christmas, but we'll take a little snow on the ground, right?

Happy Holidays, and keep your fingers crossed for some snow!
