I'm all for letting your kid be "all that they can be".  And it's not a bad thing to challenge them.  In high school.  In Junior High School.  But expecting them to be Ivy League candidates in KINDERGARTEN?  This one lady is so convinced that she's suing the school for ruining the kid's chances!

It is!!!  Just ask the kids!  They'll break into song at any moment to tell you about it.  And I was lucky enough to be there to capture it with my handy-dandy recorder.

I was a teacher for 5 years before getting into radio on Eastern Long Island.  I hung around teachers all the time.  My theory back then was that teachers should not be blamed for what's going on in school.  They WANT to teach.  They just can't with all of the disciplinary responsibilities and everything else that has been put on their shoulders...

Sorry, but this school gets an extra blog.  If you saw the other Woestina Elementary blog, you know that the school is possibly going to close due to budget considerations.  Of course, the whole community is concerned.   And you know that dedicated  staff members and former ones as well are worried as well.

Nic Ramos wanted to make a point .  I think he succeeded.  To protest the price of college tuition, he stuffed a duffel bag full of DOLLAR BILLs and marched over to the bursar's office with the stash.

I had another great time at another great school for the Reading, Writing and Rhyming Program. This time I visited Keane Elementary in Schenectady.  These were first graders ,and they were INTO it!! They were ready to rhyme, ba-by!

    This will get some watercooler talk going today!   I'm sure we'll be fighting it out on the morning show at some point as well.  According to the Wall Street Journal, there's at least one Chinese mother who feels that their country is MUCH better at raising successful kids.  How?  By not taking any ....crap!  I guess that's the best way to summarize this article.  This is a MUST read. Yesterday, when my sixteen year old son came home from school, I asked him the ever annoying, and almost rhetorical question. "How was school today?"  After the obligatory, "fine."  I thought maybe a follow up question would be a nice touch.

The Readin', Writin', and Rhymin' School Tour made it's traditional holiday stop at Charleton Elementary School in the Ballston Spa, NY area.  Keyboard under one arm, prizes from Hannaford Supermarkets under the other, I made my way into the classroom.

The very first time I went to visit a school to write a song parody with kids, I walked out with my tail between my legs!  It was a high school senior history class.  OK, it was an 8th period class in May, so maybe I'm being too picky.  But let's put it this way--I ran out of that building so fast, they almost signed me up for the track team!
