Presidential candidate Mitt Romney was caught on video, behind closed doors at a private fundraiser with millionaires saying that 47% of Americans don't pay taxes. We were wondering if that was true and if so, who is that 47%.

Romney is close- it is actually more like 46% though.

Here is Romney's exact quote:

"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the President no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what...These are people who pay no income tax ...

"My job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

Ouch - those are some harsh words. The reality is that the 46% do not pay income taxes, but that also doesn't mean they live tax free either -they are still paying most taxes outside of income tax.

So who are they? Well, yes they are low income Americans but that is a subjective term that includes the elderly, the disabled, students, and even some wounded veterans. It's hard to hear that my parents or someone injured while fighting for my freedom isn't entitled to a home, or food, or care.

Putting aside politics, this is a very cold and uncaring approach to treating others. I think we ought to start giving people rulers with the golden rule on them because people are quickly forgetting how to treat others.
