Watch Sam Hunt Tackle Waylon Jennings’ ‘Belle of the Ball’ in Concert
During a late-night show at the 2016 Country Radio Seminar in early February, Sam Hunt tried his hand a country classic: Waylon Jennings' "Belle of the Ball."
Dressed in jeans, a white T-shirt and a black hat, Hunt strummed an acoustic guitar as he performed the tune on the Ryman Auditorium stage. The singer's voice is strong and melodic as he sings, "I'll never forget you, and love you in spite of your faults / The good and the bad, I want to remember it all / And I did a new dance, and you did your Tennessee Waltz / But the party's all over, I came uninvited / I'm leaving and taking the belle of the ball."
While Hunt has earned his fair share of detractors for blending country, pop and hip-hop into his signature musical style, his simple, pure Jennings cover proves that, even without the flash, he is truly talented. Press play on the video above to watch the performance.
"Belle of the Ball" wasn't the only highlight of Hunt's CRS 2016 show. He also performed a medley of '90s hits -- from Reba McEntire‘s “Fancy" and Trisha Yearwood‘s “She’s in Love With the Boy” to Whitney Houston‘s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and Destiny’s Child‘s “Say My Name." Charles Kelley joined Hunt for the medley.
