On Saturday night over twenty cats and kittens were dumped and left abandoned at the front door of the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in Menands. Several were in bad shape. A few of the cats were in a dog cage, while others were in cardboard boxes and can be seen escaping as soon as the boxes are placed on the ground.

Three women are seen unloading about four or five boxes from a Jeep SUV. Toward the end of the video, one of the women can be seen taking an adult cat and tossing it into a box, knocking it over.

It happened around 7:30 after the shelter had closed for the night. Luckily, a neighbor spotted what happened and alerted staff, who returned to take care of the felines.

Had this gone unnoticed, there is a chance the kittens could have contracted hypothermia and died, as temperatures went down into the 30's that night.

There were three adult cats and about twenty kittens, some of them newborns. The humane society staff said many of the kittens were neglected, suffering from ear mites and other illnesses.

The cats are all expected to be ok, but the shelter will need to care for them for the next four to eight weeks before they can be put up for adoption. The Humane Society says it welcomes people who are overwhelmed with too many pets to drop off animals during regular hours of operation.

Police are trying to identify the three women in the video below. If you have any information that might be helpful, call Menands Police at 518-463-1681.
