The Times Union Center will host UFC Fight Night December 9.

According to the New York Post, the fight card for that night and ticket details are still being finalized for the Albany date, as well as Madison Square Garden in New York November 12. Mixed martial arts was just legalized in New York back in April. The article also says New York requires any organization putting on a bout to have $1 million in insurance to cover traumatic brain injuries. Because of this UFC could be the only organization who can actually sanction bouts in the state.

I have always been a casual observer of mixed martial arts over the years, and it has definitely grown a lot more popular over the years. Whereas boxing seemed to be more popular when I was younger, MMA has come to the forefront. Especially with all the media coverage surrounding the UFC's bigger stars. It will be interesting to see how these events do in the Capital Region, and if some of the sports biggest stars will come to the area,
