This Upstate New York Town Is NY’s ‘Drunkest City’

Which city in the state of New York binge drinks the most?

Based on the bar scene, and how busy it gets in the summer, I would have guessed Saratoga Springs would have won this title.

But according to a recent study by 24/7 Wall St, Watertown is the drunkest city in the State of New York. The website study was based on '...areas reporting the highest levels of binge and heavy drinking in each state.'

The study says 21.4% of adults in Watertown drink excessively, the highest rate in the state. As a whole, 16.5% of New York state residents say they binge drink. The 28.6% rate for driving fatalities that involve alcohol is also high compared to the statewide average of 23.4%. According to the study, these numbers are actually quite low compared to most other states.

It is nice to be recognized, but this it probably something the folks in Watertown do not want to be recognized for. I guess it just comes down to - drink more water! :)
