‘Queen of Pop’ Taylor Swift Remains Loyal to Her Country Music Family
Taylor Swift is a crossover pop queen these days, but that doesn't mean she's turning her back on her roots; her royal heels are still firmly planted in country music.
In a revealing interview with New York Magazine (via Vulture) that will hit the newsstands on Nov. 25, the 'I Knew You Were Trouble' singer -- who has seen tremendous success in the pop world -- is vocal about her love of country music and its people.
“Country radio is much more like a family than any other group of people that I’ve met,” Swift relays. “They just say, ‘Look, we’ve known each other for years. You’ve stood by us, and we’ve stood by you. That’s how this works.'”
Because of that loyalty, the international superstar isn't denying either genre of pop or country. Instead, she's opened up her arms to both. “I love country and I love pop,” says Swift, who doesn't want to be forced to choose. "I love them both."
The 'Red' singer certainly demonstrated her love of country by giving $4 million to the Country Music Hall of Fame, which recently opened the Taylor Swift Education Center. And country music reciprocated that loyalty with the rare Pinnacle Award at the 2013 CMA Awards, honoring Swift's astonishing career, one that any musician would be proud of.
Adds the 23-year-old, "I love being a part of the country-music community."
