Taylor Swift Inspsires St. Rose Student to Build Awareness For Chromosomal Disorder
Amy Maiorano on the surface seems like a typical 21-year-old college student, but she is anything but typical.
Amy lives with a genetic disorder called Deletion 22q. She is basically missing a piece of her 22nd chromosome which causes growth deficiencies, vision problems, hearing loss, heart defects, psychiatric disorders, seizures and other ailments. Her biggest obstacle is intellectual disabilities, making basic skills tough to learn. Despite her condition, Amy has found a way to get past those limitations while building awareness for d22!
Being a big Taylor Swift fan, Amy thought reworking her hit song would be a great way to build awareness for her condition. Amy i Amy is definitely not typical. It's not typical to conquer such challenges while helping others with the same challenges. We could all learn something about determination from Amy and those like her!
