The Special Olympics don't start until this weekend but if you haven't witnessed this huge gathering of our local law enforcement, it's a sight you can't miss.
If you are looking to volunteer this summer for a wonderful organization and to cheer on some amazing athletes, then you are needed. The 2017 Special Olympics New York State Summer Games will be held in just a few weeks.
This one is not for the faint of heart, but it promises to be the hottest fundraiser in town (well, maybe that's the wrong choice of words, but it is for an amazing cause - Special Olympics of New York. On Friday, August 17, 2012 nearly 100 people rappelled 18 stories off the Albany Hotel Downtown to raise money for Special Olympics New York. Throughout the day we saw people of all ages and all levels 'face their fears' to help the cause.
On Friday, August 17, 2012 I will go live on location with GNA to help support Special Olympics New York. While I'm on the ground, some other brave people will be a little more daring and actually rappel 18 stories down the State Street side of the Hotel Albany (Crowne Plaza) downtown.
Facing fears and overcoming obstacles was the theme of the day on Friday, September 16 as dozens of people looked over the top of the Crowne Plaza hotel in downtown Albany and then crawled down the side of the 18 story building.
If you see people repelling down the Crowne Plaza building in downtown Albany it's all for a good cause - "Over The Edge" and it all benefits Special Olympics New York. If heights aren't your thing there are ways you can participate by sponsoring one of the repelling participants.
