Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia Dead At 79
The San Antonio Express-News is reporting that Senior Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia has died at a West Texas luxury resort ranch in the Big Bend region south of Marfa where he was on a quail hunting trip. He arrived at the ranch yesterday with a party of 40. When he was a no show for breakfast this morning, someone associated with the ranch went to his room and discovered a body. An unnamed federal official believed Scalia died of natural causes.
According to Wikipedia Scalia was described as the intellectual anchor for the originalist and textualist position in the Court's conservative wing. He famously argued that there was no constitutional right to abortion and repeatedly called upon his colleagues to strike down Roe V. Wade, the landmark decision which legalized abortion in 1973.
Scalia was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1986 by President Ronald Reagan.
