Sneaker Theft Leads To An Arrest And 2 People Injured
An Albany man was arrested and was charged with some serious offensives, on Monday, for an incident that happened back on February 21, which involved some stolen sneakers.
It started with an on-line advertisement for the sale of a pair of designer sneakers. 19-year-old Travis M. Rhodes allegedly set up a meeting place to examine the merchandise. That meeting took place at 3:00 a.m. on a street near the victim’s home.
The victim handed the sneakers over to be inspected. Rhodes took the sneakers and then allegedly sped off with them. While Rhodes was allegedly making his getaway with the sneakers, he was also accused of taking something else with him. The victim and someone who was a witness were both clinging onto Rhodes' vehicle, trying to grab the sneakers. Both of them fell from the car and were sent to the hospital for treatment of some injuries that they received.
According to a press release from the East Greenbush Police Department, an investigation began which led to a positive identification and recovery of the stolen merchandise, and the arrest of Rhodes. He was arraigned and sent to Rensselaer County Jail. Rhodes was charged with Robbery, Assault and Larceny. Rhodes will be going to East Greenbush Town Court for a hearing at a later date.
