It looks like Price Chopper and Hannaford will have some extra competition as ShopRite is planning on returning to the area with 2 stores, the first going into St. James Square in Niskayuna.

According to the Albany Business Review, the new store will open this fall and hire approximately 300 full and part time staffers. They also plan on buiding a store on Central Avenue in Albany in the near future.

It's been about 20 years or so since the grocery strore chain was here in the Capital District. The last one I remember was the location on Route 50 in Glenville which is now ironically a Hannaford supermarket.

I certainly like the fact their will be more competition in the area. That always helps the consumer as the stores will battle it out to have the lowest prices for their goods. I also like the fact that it will bring more jobs to the area. In these tough economic times, it's nice to see that folks will be able to make a living or make a few extra dollars.
