Price Chopper Market 32 Ending Gas Rewards This Week
If you are the type of shopper who plans your grocery trip around saving money at the gas pump, there is a change coming this week.
Price Chopper and Market 32 are ending their longtime Fuel AdvantEdge partnership with Sunoco on August 1st. For years, shoppers could turn their grocery purchases into discounts on gas, and plenty of Capital Region drivers took advantage of it. The program has reportedly helped customers save hundreds of millions of dollars over the years.
The change does not mean AdvantEdge Rewards are going away. You'll still earn points when you shop, but those rewards will now stay focused on savings inside the store. Right now, every 100 points equals $1 off your grocery bill.
So why the change?
According to the company, more customers have been using their rewards on groceries and everyday items instead of redeeming them for gas discounts. Even Stewart's Shops, which operates many participating Sunoco locations, has seen fewer people using the fuel rewards in recent years.
Redeem This Week
If you have been hanging onto points for your next fill-up, now is the time to use them. July 31st is the last day to redeem AdvantEdge rewards for fuel savings at participating Sunoco stations. After that, the gas discount program will be gone.
For many Capital Region shoppers, it feels a little like the end of an era. One less way to save at the pump and one more reason to pay attention to where those rewards points are going.
