Saratoga County Extends Bike/Walk Trail
The biking and walking trails throughout the Capital Region extend for miles. Now they extend even father into Saratoga County. This allows for Capital Region residents to enjoy miles of trails for safe activities. According to News 10 ABC, there is a new extension that is now open as part of the Zim Smith Trail. This part of the trail extends from Halfmoon to Mechanicville. The trail is now interconnected to the other large trail network.
We have been using the Mohawk Hudson trail throughout Cohoes along the paved-over old train tracks. This trail extended from Cohoes all the way through Schenectady. During this pandemic, it is nice to know that there are trails that Capital Region residents can enjoy safely while social distancing.
The new extension allows those who live or travel the Halfmoon Mechanicville trail to enjoy it further. It is not only a new section of three miles of trail, but it also has updated facilities and is newly paved. It now extends from Coons Crossing east to the Champlain Canalway Trail in Mechanicville. This goes alongside the Fairways of Halfmoon Golf Course and alongside the railroad storage yard.
Funding for the new extension in Saratoga County with trail construction was mostly provided by the New York State Department of Transportation and the federal government. It cost around five-point-five-four million dollars with the NYSDOT and the federal government providing four-point-nine million dollars.
