Rumored: A New Film Studio Moving Into Upstate New York
Call us the Hollywood of the east. Upstate New York seems to be the new darling of the TV and movie industry.
Obviously, there are tons of productions shooting in NYC every day, but in the last few years, Hollywood productions are realizing that Upstate New York offers everything they could need for location shoots. Do you need a downtown urban setting? We've got it. Do you need a farm setting? Yep, we've got that too. Do you need a lake house? Take your pick, we've got thousands.
The one thing that Upstate New York is lacking when it comes to film and TV production is real professional sound stage space. Well, it looks like that can be checked off the checklist soon. There are three production studios being built outside Buffalo and now it looks like there's one being built in the Hudson Valley in the site of the former IBM campus near East Fishkill.
According to the Poughkeepsie Journal, Assistant County Executive Ron Hicks on Friday told the Journal a movie studio is in its due diligence phase with tentative plans to present a proposal before August for using space on the former IBM campus.
And according to the article, that might not be the only studio moving into Upstate New York. So, if you're looking for an opportunity to work in TV and film production, or become an actor or just have a great time as a background extra you've picked the right place to live because the industry is just going to continue to grow in Upstate New York.
