NYSP Asks for the Public's Help

New York State Police are asking for the public's help as they attempt to gather more information after a report of an unruly mob of about 30 or 40 people on motorcycles and ATVs dangerously wreaked havoc on citizens and even police officers in Upstate New York on Sunday.

According to a press release by the New York State Police, up to 40 motorists on motorcycles and ATVs convened in an area in the Village of Wappingers Falls (90 minutes south of Albany) on Sunday afternoon, shortly after 4 pm.

Mob of Bikers Wreak Havoc on Community, and Officers

While there, State Police say the "group operating recklessly in the roadway and on sidewalks. Members of the group began circling the marked State Police patrol vehicle, revving their engines and shouting profanities."

While State Police were trying to get control of the situation, an unidentified operator of a 2024 Yamaha dirt bike crashed into and caused injury to a fellow group member, John Robinson, age 25, of Poughquag, NY.

State Trooper's Hat Was Stolen at the Scene

The press release states that as a Trooper attempted to render aid, members of the group interfered, and one of the riders stole the Trooper’s hat from his vehicle and fled. According to the State Police, the man who took the Trooper hat was arrested, but they still hope the public can provide any information regarding the other individuals involved.

The injured party, according to the NYSP,  was left behind and later transported to Vassar Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
