Albany is Open for Business: Pig Pit BBQ Serves Up New Options and Your Favorite BBQ
In the past months, we've all had to make some adjustments — working from home, moving to digital platforms, providing goods and services on a virtual or delivery basis. That change has been especially difficult for many of Albany's businesses. But in true Capital Region spirit, Albany has remained open for business.
We wanted to shine a light on how some of our Capital Region community business leaders are doing. Our DJs are speaking with different business leaders to get a boots-on-the-ground look at how Albany is staying open for business, and we were excited to speak with Larry, who owns Pig Pit BBQ in Cohoes with his vegetarian wife, Kim.
They received a $20,000 Paycheck Protection Program loan that not only replaced some of their losses, but also allowed them to put a small addition on their front porch and purchase ice cream equipment and an ice cream sign. They're even adding Hershey's hard and soft ice cream!
But, as you heard Chrissy say, her mouth waters just thinking about their pulled pork sandwiches and coleslaw. They have a good variety of homemade sauces and their menu is truly extensive — they have a large Mexican food selection, whole chicken dinners (feed your family for less than $10 per person with this one!) and chili you'll want to tell your friends about.
Larry and Kim have owned the business for just over a year, but Larry gives the three employees who have been with the company for more than 15 years a lot of credit for making the process of rolling with COVID-19's punches fun.
"I have spent the last year learning, living and breathing BBQ," Larry said. "Never being in the restaurant business before has been like starting over in kindergarten. I just graduated from middle school, and I can't wait for high school!"
They have a couple of deals you don't want to miss:
- All American Buffet To-Go: A new catering option is an All American buffet, individually packaged in portions designed for one person, for $14 a person.
- Sunday Pig Roast Special: Get a 1/2 pound of pork, baked potato and farm fresh corn on the cob for just $13 per person.
Click here to check out their whole menu, and stop by to see them at 1 Niver St., Cohoes. They even have online ordering!
